To the South of Montpellier
To the south of Montpellier, from Palavas-les-Flots to the Petite Camargue, there are several seaside resorts with their own characteristics: Palavas-les-Flots with its 45m high former local water tower that can be seen from afar and features a revolving restaurant on top and a congress centre; La Grande-Motte, characterized by its prominent pyramidal buildings; the picturesque Le Grau-du-Roi with its numerous seafood restaurants and its stunning Seaquarium. In the hinterland of Le Grau-du-Roi, hidden behind the mechanically harvested salt which is piled up in the twinkling 'camelles', lies Aigues-Mortes, a medieval city surrounded by well-preserved walls.
